MIGRAINE, a thorn between me and my love for reading

Thanks to a friend I am able to get my hands on an Anne Rice book again.

I haven’t read any of her works for ages. I can’t remember the last time I read one of her works was but it is the book The Witching Hour.

I can’t remember all the important details ‘cause I’ve read this novel more than a decade ago. But I can bet it is a good read. One that kept me awake ‘til the wee hours of the morning just to finish every gripping chapter.

So, I started reading ‘The Mummy’, well pretty interesting ‘coz I’ve read a few Anne Rice books about Vampires and witches. This is the first time ever that I’ll read about an Egyptian mummy. What’s more interesting is that it isn’t just a mummy, it is an UNDEAD mummy!

After reading a couple of pages, my head started to feel heavy... Oh no, it doesn’t have anything to do with occultism or the mysteries of Anne Rice’s writings.

It is nothing more than my migraine.

It’s very sad to think that a few years back I can finish
a chapter or two in one night. Now I’m on the third page and I have to stop reading because of my head ache.

I’ve been suffering from these headaches for years now. I remember how I would like to smash my head into the wall when I was in 5th grade. There are so many instances that my headache is so bad I puke. I was reprimanded several times in my previous job for absences due to this illness, which other people don’t take seriously but I guess for those who suffer, like me, it is indeed an ordeal.

For years I have been dependent on paracetamol and mefenamic acid. I have yet to research on their side effects on me, but better not to.

Why the hell would I care for the side effects, I need these medicines to keep me functioning... for my job, for family, for good time’s sake.

And as always, I cannot fear the unknown. The lesser I know, the less worries I’ll have. I don’t actually have enough time to care.

Anyways, I have learned that coffee is a good activator of pain relievers. They enhance and hasten the effects of them by helping spread the chemicals through our system.

So, here are my usual must-haves in the office:

Paracetamol and coffee.

And into my kikay pouch amidst the many lipsticks and brushes sits my beloved Tylenol. That is if it is so terrible that the usual paracetamol 500 can’t handle it anymore.

SIGALOT: One Helluva Rock Party!!!!

May 5, 2012 marks another encounter.
The word ‘sigalot’ literally means conflict. But as I attend the event, all I can feel is the harmony and brotherhood of Cavite’s heaviest rock bands.

Having had embraced the rock and roll lifestyle, I have attended numerous rock events. I have been to bigger concerts but they’re just gigs. Sigalot is different: it’s a rock party!!!!

Sigalot is the brainchild of one of Cavite scene’s most respected vocalist, Pondz Legaspi of Balatek.

"ANG SIGALOT AY SANIB PWERSANG ENGKWENTRO SA TERITORYO(CAVITE).......DITO NAGSANIB ANG PWERSA NG MGA TANGING BUKOD.....DITO NANANATILI ANG MGA TUNAY NA BUO ANG LOOB!!!"
- a line from one of their singles, SIGALOT

A journey of a thousand steps starts with meeting up people and hailing a cab. And this is how the night started.

No, we're not spoiled rich kids who wouldn't travel by jeepney or tricycle. We are just lucky a cab passed by our village and agreed to take us to the venue with no additional charge other than what is stated in the cab fare meter. Normally cabbies charge an additional something just because they don't frequent our area, which is by the way dominated by tricycles who charge almost similar to cabs.

The venue is in Revilla Business Park, a garden named Tianggi-an Resto Bar. Good ambiance though. And of course away from residences, thus nobody will worry about a complaint while everyone is banging their heads out.

Entrance fee is reasonable. 60 bucks for a night of effin’ wild music, and a free Redhorse beer!

The only downside is that there’s a limited choice of food. And by limited I mean, limited to barbecue only. There’s a barbecue stand just beside the booze stall, which sells also limited alcohol. Good thing it is Redhorse beer, one of my favorites, and most musicians favorite, too.

Ricky brought his GSM Blue, a gig staple. They passed it along like madmen, as always.

Of course I didn’t miss the chance to snap photos of people.

Friends making faces...

Those who are just darn happy to see each other, or just watching whoever's performing....

Band members and their muses...

Even little kids who are there watching their dad rock!

And of course picture taking isn’t complete without me striking a pose along with my friends.

Event was hosted by Pondz of Balatek and Stephen of Mortal Fear.

As much as I would like to document the whole event, I can’t. Maybe because at times I'm preoccupied talking with friends, or maybe munching on a barbecue. But most of the performers were snapped.

Call me bias but I have to snap more photos of KATOLIKO. They are the reason for my presence, to begin with. My husband, RickyPricks is the bassist, my high school batchmate Paul on drums, long time barkada Ian on guitar and Reggie on vocals.

Sadly, the camera’s battery didn’t last long to take pictures of the last three bands.

There are a lot more to chronicle but they will just belong to the memories of those who are present.

In most gigs, people just come to watch. They bring along friends and girlfriends to support them but most of the time after their performance, they pack-up and wouldn't listen or watch the next band perform. That is one sad truth about other gigs.

As for SIGALOT, everyone shows support. And as Ricky Pricks puts it in his status update last May 6th:

"SOLID ang SIGALOT kagabi!,walang banda na tugtug uwe!,sana ganyan lahat ang mga banda, walang PA- ROCKSTAR!"

Lovin' my new look!

My idea of having red hair came when  my dear Heather edited one of my old photos.

I soo love the hair color but Ricky wouldn't let me have full bangs again. Said that it makes me look like a gay.

It was a very vain weekend for me last May 4-6. Yes, it started on a Friday and Lasted until Sunday.

I'm not usually this vain because I'm just too lazy to care; I'm more of a carefree person. I do appreciate fashion but wouldn't bother to go some extra mile for a look. But this weekend is different.

Friday

I got a stylish haircut from Cherish. I don't know how it is called but I already sported a similar look back in 2007, when I used to work as a beauty advisor. I thought Vince of Edwin Samot Salon is the only one who can achieve that look. I'm very surprised that Cherish, though not yet a pro, has satisfied my expectations and even exceeded it.
Ricky, of course, is so amazed.

Saturday

With the help of our friendly neighborhood manicurista, I dyed my hair red using a cheap hair dye (floweriness red).

Later that night, along with some friends, Ricky and I attended a rock gig/party.

I was wearing my new Jolly Rogers vest,  favorite acid washed jeggings from my mom, FCUK tank from sis-in-law Lhanie, faded pink Chuck Taylor Converse, Artwork Janis Joplin bag and Diesel dog tag.

I think I have pulled the look off very well as I have received lots of compliments from friends both old and new.

Sunday

We arrived from the gig at around 4am Sunday dawn. Of course I didn't get out of bed until lunch time.
Siouxsie went with Lola and Ate Janine for an Avengers movie treat.

Being too lazy to move but excited to use my new fine brush nail polish I tried some nail art.

Credits

Special thanks to my pretty co-teacher, Cherish for the hip haircut.

Of course I won't be able to document all these kakikayan without Janine's camera that I always use (and abuse).
Thank you so much my dear.

May The 4th

"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...."
as the crawl goes.

This is actually a speedy blog post as I only have a few hours left before this day ends.
Yeah, I learned from facebook and twitter that today is "Star Wars Day".

And it took me a while... (actually a few hours) to finally get the reason for such a day.

"May the Fourth" (May 4) sounds like "May the Force..."

This is really brilliant! having a Star Wars Day, based on a famous quote rather than actual dates that inspired the making of Star Wars. Or even the day when Star Wars was first released on movie theaters. Which was May 25, 1977.

A brilliant idea but surely not very surprising as there are a lot of Star Wars geeks out there who never fails to have awesome stuff just so the Star Wars culture can grow.

Yeah, culture, I believe, though I'm not a big fan, that Star Wars fondness can be somehow considered a culture. A way of life for some people.

I have always been impressed how fans actually spend a fortune in buying collectibles from movie posters, action figures, DVDs, costumes, gadgets and what have you's.

I have watched most of the 6 Star War movies. And because I have watched a lot of movies of different genres, honestly, there's nothing really special about them. There may even be loop holes especially those from episodes 4-6.

But the thing is... George Lucas was an effin' genius!
Nobody could ever come up with such an idea during those times. It was the seventies for Christ's sake! You have to be a freakin' genius to think such things as the Death Star or The Galactic Empire and all of the other characters and details fans worldwide memorize and know by heart, like a true Jedi.

Those who knows me and my family might be able to guess why I have watched Star Wars even though at first I'm not interested. Of course it is because of my two lovely boys:

Yeah, Siouxsie isn't really a boy, but she's one of the boys. As a child, Ricky grew up sheltered and well-provided. He once owned a few Star Wars toys, but wasn't able to keep all of them. Some were handed down to a nephew others were just misplaced while playing with other kids. It makes him kinda sad that he wasn't able to pass them to Siouxsie. If only he knew that those toys would turn out to be treasures now, he could have cared for them more.

So to share the culture and knowledge, Ricky provided Siouxsie with a DVD set of the Star Wars Saga.

And of course, being a tomboy (LOL), Siouxsie now wants a set of Lego Star Wars to add to her collection. Here's one set that she saw on google that she's dying to have:

And since I already explained earlier that this is a rush post, I wasn't able to take a picture on how Siouxsie improvise just so she can have a Darth Vader costume.

Here are some of the things she used: the cape of her worn-out Batman costume, a pair of blue (though she insist of buying a black one) rain boots, the helmet which my brother lend me and a plastic lightsaber toy.

So, for now, all I can say is:

May the Fourth be with you!!!!
